Our story
1883, Amédée Vuillemin, the founder of this company, is 20 years old when he officially takes over the cutting tool factory created in 1863 by his father Louis, who was a mechanic, cutting tool manufacturer and woodturner at the time.
Amédée worked there with his three sons, Joseph in cutting tool making, Robert in cabinetmaking and Clovis in woodturning.
When he died in 1939, his sons Joseph and Robert took over the ancestral business. It was then continued by their children, Claude, who took over the cutting tool making, and René, who took over the cabinetmaking and woodturning.
In 1983, 1,200 screw stools were produced at the factory every month. They were destined for the Swiss and French watchmaking industries, as well as for distributors.
1996, René's 31-year-old son Laurent took over the running of the family business, but with a completely different approach. He combines traditional techniques with the aesthetics of noble materials such as beech, and retains the practical and functional aspect in his made-to-measure products.
This know-how, acquired over generations, means that we can give pride of place to local woods.
2023, Laurent's son Maxime, 25, the 6th generation of cabinet-makers, joins the family stronghold, where the business has been going strong for 140 years, in the same historic premises, and where the screw stool remains a must-have.
Our values
Our products are made entirely in France, in our historic workshops in Grand'Combe-Châteleu, where we promote short circuits between bio sourcing and the end customer.
We source our beech wood from within an 80 km radius of our workshops, making our products purely regional.
The wood comes from sustainably managed forests, where traceability and respect for the life cycle of trees and forest ecosystems are a priority. .
With over 140 years' experience, all our products are eco-designed to optimise the use of bio-based materials.
Our wood offcuts represent less than 30% of our consumption, and each of them is reused in other components, other objects, or to heat our workshops for the sections that cannot be reused.
Our solid wood creations are made in an ecologically responsible way to last for generations and more than a single lifetime.
We attach particular importance to combining the rare, centuries-old know-how acquired over generations with constant technological innovation to bring all our customers' projects to life.
